How to check your Extreme Stats

What is Extreme Stats?

ExtremeStats is a tracker that we build into a website to enable you to easily follow important statistics on visits to your website without the hassle of having to login first.

Why are Stats important?

When we first take over your website, we are dealing with a site with 0 record of any stats. Even if you had the site for 10 years already, it will start as a newbie in our books, but also as a newbie in Google. This is simply because all the sites we take over have been edited in one way or another to ensure better SEO.

So, starting all fresh, we will now need a means to measure what is actually happening with the visits and ranking on the site in order to make the correct management decisions regarding this important marketing tool of yours.

Therefore we start tracking your site's stats and 3-6 months later, we will have statistical historical data which will help us to guide you as to what would be the next best course of action to take with your site.

A word to the wise

Please keep in mind that you as the owner have a larger responsibility to track your stats and ensure you know what is happening with your site.

How do I access my tracker stats then?

We will mail you a unique URL (a web page address) which you can then add to your favourites - control + D - and from there on, everytime you visit, just click on it in your favourites.

A screen will open looking like this :-

FIG 1

In the table name DNS (see image), you will see two columns. On the left hand side, a column with Blue Text and on the right hand side a column with black text.

The left hand column shows pages - each one its own page and each one giving its own unique part of your stats. For example - Summary - refers to the summary of all visitor activity on your site. You will see that all these are Blue and underlined - meaning each one is a link and can be clicked on to be taken to a new page.

Now let's click on Summary . The following screen will appear - (you will need to scroll down a bit though to see it)

FIG 2

Looking at the above, let's discuss some of the options you see here. At the top left hand, you see Daily Unique in black and Today, Yesterday and Highest Day in Red. This shows how many visitors you had today, yesterday and which day you had the highest number of visitors out of the period which is shown at the top right hand in bold.

Under Daily Unique, you then get the same Unique visitors stats per week, and per month.

On the right hand side of the column you will see Totals. These are rather self explanatory. Further down you can see Most accessed stats such as which Browser was mostly used to access your site - in the above case Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6, which Screen resolution was mostly used and so on.

Let's scroll up again to the top block. as in fig 1 above.

You can now go to the Unique Visitors page which will show individual stats of Unique Visitors, then there is Incl, Excl, Reloads - which shows unique visitors including people who revisited and reloaded the page, then there is Geo Tracking (Geography) - which shows from which countries your visitors hit your site.

The next one is System Tracking. This will show why we design sites for MSIE7 and up as well as Firefox and design for a screen resolution of 1024x768 as basis. Keep in mind that MSIE8 was only released in May 2008.

The next option is Referrer Tracking 1 >> click on this one, as this is the 2nd most important option we use. You will see the following screen (you will need to scroll down a bit though to see it)

FIG 3

Make sure you view the table with the heading LAST 20 SEARCHENGINE QUERIES. Here you will see basically 3 columns. The red shows you exactly on which date and time your site was hit. The black shows from which search engine - in this case Google. Lastly, the blue shows you for which keyword your site was hit.

Now follows the nice part - if you click on any of the blue phrases - for instance website design (2nd from the bottom) - you will be taken to Google Search Results and you will see exactly where your site ranks in Google for this specific keyphrase.

Now you can see how easy it is to see if your site actually ranks for the chosen keywords or -phrases. By monitoring this, you can now let us know if your site is getting the correct targeted traffic. If not, we can now adjust the keywords to the ones you think might work better and then start tracking the new campaign.
